In addition to optional pre-conference workshops scheduled for Thursday May 11,
Dr. Kirk Strosahl (www.behavioral-health-integration.com) and Dr. Gabor Mate (www.whenthebodysaysno.ca/doctor.html) have been confirmed as conference keynote speakers on May 12 and May 13 respectively.
Learning from our successes as we plan for our future, this conference will focus on practical aspects of Shared Mental Health Care.
The Canadian Collaborative Mental Health Initiative will be sharing results from two years of research. CCMHI will present a series of interactive toolkits and unveil an action plan to implement Collaborative Mental Health Care principles as outlined in the charter.
Concurrent Sessions
Five concurrent sessions are scheduled during the conference. During these sessions over eight workshops will be offered along with over 40 papers. The workshops are designed to be practical and interactive. They deal with a variety of topics including tools to use in primary health care and how to create effective teams. The papers come from all parts of Canada and encompass all six themes of the conference.
Poster Sessions
Over 20 posters will be displayed that further illustrate the state of shared and collaborative mental health care in Canada.
Preconference Workshop - Integrating primary care and behavioural health services: A compass and horizon - Dr. Kirk Stosahl.
An optional pre-conference workshop is scheduled for Thursday May 11. There is an additional nominal registration fee with a discount available for delegates also attending the main conference.

Objectives:
- Demonstrate research into the prevalence, cost and service impacts of behavioral health issues in general medicine;
- Appreciate the importance of population health principles in designing and evaluating integration programs;
- Understand the key components of the primary care health model as a general approach and as applied to chronic conditions;
- Understand the core competencies required of both physicians and behaviorists for integrated behavioral care to succeed; and
- Evaluate the research examining the clinical and cost effectiveness of the primary care behavioral health model.
Kirk Strosahl, Ph.D. operates a consultant firm specializing in program implementation and training services for health care systems seeking to integrate behavioral health and primary medical services.
