- Utilize CCMHI toolkits and seek feedback on their value and/or need for revision.
- Identify provincial and federal champions that will support further implementation.

2. Development of an Implementation Plan
A major deliverable for Phase 2 included the creation of an Implementation Proposal, based on provincial consultations, for advancing collaborative practices and addressing stigma and discrimination:
- A knowledge transfer strategy for the ongoing dissemination of resources on collaborative mental health care.
- A long-term plan to promote collaboration between mental health and primary care services including: evaluation of the impact of toolkits, integration of collaborative mental health care in chronic disease management policies and strategies, refinement of existing toolkits on the basis of evaluation.
- Development of an outcome measures evaluation plan.
- A communication strategy for promoting an implementation proposal to policy planners and funder.
3. Other Phase 2 Activities
Identify and link CCMHI to other federal mental health initiatives including the Canadian Mental Health Commission, CAMIMH Mental Health Literacy Project, Stigma, Discrimination Research Initiative etc.
- Identify interested partners and develop the CCMHI data-base.
- Audit activities of the CCMHI website. Revise content to enrich the knowledge base on collaborative care.
- Identify opportunities to promote CCMHI through participation in workshops and conferences.
Through our continued consultation and engagement we will seek to deepen the appreciation and understanding of best practices in Canada, and options for new models for collaborative mental health care in primary care settings.
Project Team
The Mood Disorders Society of Canada was engaged by the CCMHI, with funding from Health Canada, to disseminate its Phase 1 research materials and toolkits to the front line where people are seeking care and to decision-makers who influence mental health policy, health care delivery and professional training.
The MDSC was selected to manage this project phase because of its ability to engage the consumer/family community as partners, positive working relationships with policy planners and decision-makers, experience in project management and commitment to advancing collaborative care within the primary care sector. The decision to engage a consumer/family organization to manage phase 2 of this project is a demonstration of the commitment of the Management and Steering Committee to work as partners and place the consumer at the centre of care and decision-making.
